Red Bulls Host New York City FC in the First of Two New York Derby’s this Week

HARRISON, N.J. – The New York Red Bulls (7-11-5, 26 points) host New York City FC (11-8-5, 38 points) for the first New York Derby of the 2021 season. Coverage on MSG begins at 7:30 p.m. ET with the Red Bulls Pregame show. Steve Cangialosi will have the primary play-by-play responsibilities and will be alongside Shep Messing and Michelle Gingras.

New York Red Bulls Radio begins at 7 p.m. EST with Countdown to Kickoff, presented by Honda, hosted by Matt Harmon and Steve Jolley. Stefano Fusaro will carry the Spanish play-by-play responsibilities, beginning at 7:30 p.m. EST.

This will be the first of two meeting this week between the Red Bulls and New York City FC, with the second taking place at Yankee Stadium on Saturday. This will be the ninth meeting between the two clubs at Red Bull Arena, where the Red Bulls own the advantage with a 6-1-1 mark. NYCFC are currently 2-2-1 in their last five matches, with their most recent result being a 2-1 win against FC Cincinnati on September 18.

Red Bulls Captain Sean Davis tallied his second assist of the season against Inter Miami CF on Friday, September 17. Davis is currently New York’s active leading assist leader with 21 MLS-regular season assists. In nine appearances against NYCFC, he has recorded two assists.

On September 17, New York earned their first road win since July 3 against Orlando City FC. They defeated Inter Miami CF, 4-0, which was their most goals scored in a single match since September 7, 2020, against CF Montreal. Brazilian forward Fábio scored a brace in the match, which was the Red Bulls first multi-goal match by a player this season. This season he has recorded two goals and five assists at Red Bull Arena.

Following Wednesday’s match, the Red Bulls will face off against New York City FC for the second New York Derby in four days on Saturday, September 25.
