Real Madrid v Mallorca Live Commentary & Result, 22/09/2021, Primera División

That’s all from us today folks, we hope you enjoyed the game!

Madrid are now two points ahead of Atletico at the top of LaLiga and they will face Villarreal next time out. Meanwhile Mallorca remain 10th and winless in their last three games. They face Osasuna at the weekend.

Real Madrid head to the top of LaLiga after an impressive 6-1 victory over Mallorca, that included a superb hat-trick from Asensio, a Benzema brace and a late strike from Isco. They led 3-1 at the break and it looked like Benzema had fired them further ahead just after the restart, but it was ruled out by VAR. However, Asensio completed his hat-trick shortly after with a fine strike from the outside of the penalty area, before Benzema and Isco then made sure of the victory late on and wrapped up a convincing win for Madrid.

90′ + 4′ FULL-TIME: REAL MADRID 6-1 MALLORCA

90′ + 3′ OFF THE BAR! Vinicius gets to the byline in the box and then picks out Jovic at the far post, who powers a header towards goal. However, Reina makes a superb save to tip it onto the crossbar and away to safety. However, it wouldn’t have counted anyway as Jovic is pulled up for a foul on Olivan.

90′ + 2′ You wouldn’t have thought that Real Madrid held such an impressive lead, as they are still pushing forward late on for more goals.

90′ SAVE! Courtois is called into action late on to deny Sanchez! The Mallorca man raced through on goal after sneaking in behind and only had the keeper to beat, but Courtois made himself as big as possible and made an excellent stop to prevent a second Mallorca goal.

90′ There will be a minimum of four minutes added time played at the end of the second half.

89′ Good effort! Santos whips a good cross into the box from the right wing and Jovic meets it and attempts an acrobatic volley, but it’s too close to Reina, who makes a good save.

88′ The visitors look defeated now, they aren’t showing any intent to get back into the game and seem resigned to their fate. This result will send Madrid top of LaLiga.

86′ There’s not long left to play before the full-time whistle now, will we see any more goals before the end of this game?

84′ Vinicius has been unlucky not to get on the scoresheet himself today and could have gone for goal as he broke into the box, but opted to pass to Isco who was in a much better position and his team-mate made no mistakes with the finish.

Real Madrid

84′ GOAL! Isco nets a sixth! Vinicius holds off the challenge on Sastre down the left wing and breaks into the penalty area, before squaring it across goal for Isco, who fires the ball into the bottom right corner of the net. It’s now 6-1!

82′ Mallorca manager Luis Garcia Plaza has only won one of his nine games against Real Madrid in LaLiga as a manager (D2 L6), a 2-1 victory with Getafe in August 2012. He has lost each of his four league visits to Santiago Bernabeu.

Real Madrid

80′ Nacho is the other man to come off and he has been replaced by Santos.

Real Madrid

80′ Another couple of Madrid changes now following the goal, with Benzema one of those coming off and he has been replaced by Jovic.

Real Madrid

78′ Alaba hasn’t had much to do defensively today and he showed his attacking quality there, chipping the ball forward perfectly into the path of Benzema, who beat two defenders to make it 5-1.

Real Madrid

78′ GOAL! Benzema makes it 5-1! The striker finally gets his second goal of the game and it’s a fine finish. Alaba plays a long ball forward from the back, spotting the run of Benzema in behind and he gets a bit of luck as the ball bounces off his back, before falling perfectly to him in the box. Olivan and Valjent try and get back to block the shot, but only end up deflecting Benzema’s effort past their own keeper and into the back of the net.

Mallorca

76′ Another Mallorca substitution now, with Lago Junior making his way off the pitch and he has been replaced by Mboula.

74′ Courtois hasn’t had much to do in the second half, with Mallorca unable to get into the box and threaten the Madrid goal. Meanwhile Reina at the other end has been very busy.

Real Madrid

72′ The other change sees Rodrygo replaced by Vazquez.

Real Madrid

72′ Double substitution here for Madrid, with Asensio coming off to a standing ovation following his hat-trick and he has been replaced by Isco.

71′ Rodrygo and Vinicius have been excellent for Madrid today down the flanks, constantly pushing forward and stretching the game, beating their opponents and creating opportunities in the final third.

69′ All of the changes over the last 10 minutes have taken the pace out of the game, along with Madrid not trying as hard to push on and score another goal. They look very comfortable.

Real Madrid

67′ Another yellow card, this time it is shown to Nacho for a challenge on Lago Junior deep down the left wing, which hands Mallorca a free-kick in a decent position.

66′ This is better from the visitors, they are enjoying some possession of their own in the Madrid half, but just can’t get it into the final third to test Courtois.

64′ Mallorca have lost more games against Real Madrid than against any other opponent in their LaLiga history, both overall (37) and in away games only (22).

62′ The home crowd are loving this performance from their side and it looks like they might see a few more goals before the game finishes.

Antonio Blanco

E. Camavinga

Real Madrid

60′ Madrid respond by making a substitution of their own, with Camavinga replaced by Blanco.

Mallorca

59′ Hoppe is the third man to depart and he has been replaced by Prats.

Mallorca

59′ Febas also heads off the pitch and on in his place is Sanchez.

Mallorca

59′ Mallorca have made a triple change now and the first sees Gaya come off and he has been replaced by Costa.

Mallorca

57′ Baba is the first Mallorca player to be booked after a late challenge on Rodrygo deep down the wing.

Real Madrid

55′ Benzema with his second assist of the game, spotting Asensio in time and space on the edge of the box and the Mallorca defence just didn’t go enough to get close to him.

Real Madrid

55′ GOAL! Asensio gets his hat-trick! Rodrygo races into the final third and flicks it off to Benzema, who finds Asensio on the edge of the box, who is completely unmarked and he curls the ball into the bottom left corner of the net. Reina couldn’t get down quickly enough and Real Madrid now lead 4-1.

54′ PENALTY SHOUT! Nacho whips a low cross into the box towards the near post and Rodrygo goes for it, but he has his shirt pulled and he goes to ground appealing for a penalty. The referee waves away his appeals and VAR don’t take a look either. Surprising as that looked like a foul.

52′ Even though they’ve had a fourth goal ruled out, it doesn’t look long before Madrid will go on and score another. They look like they might score every time they get into the final third.

50′ NO GOAL! The referee has overturned his original decision and the goal has now been ruled out for a foul on Sastre by Benzema! It remains 3-1.

49′ VAR GOAL CHECK! The officials are taking another look at the Real Madrid fourth goal as Sastre goes down as Benzema skips past him to get to the ball. There doesn’t seem to be much contact, but the right-backs falls to the ground and appeals for a free-kick. This might be ruled out.

48′ GOAL! Benzema nets his second of the game and Real Madrid’s fourth, it’s 4-1! Rodrygo does brilliantly down the right wing, sprinting past his marker and getting all the way into the final third, before squaring it across goal for Benzema, who has a simple tap-in from close range.

Real Madrid

47′ Rodrygo is booked almost straight after the restart for a late challenge on Lee. Poor tackle by the winger and the referee had no chance but to show him a yellow card.

46′ The second half is under way!

Mallorca

46′ Mallorca have made a substitution ahead of the second half, with Kubo the man coming off and he has been replaced by Baba.

There could be a few more goals today, as Madrid look dangerous every time they attack, with Asensio and Vinicius going close to extending their lead even further later on in the half.

Real Madrid hold a comfortable 3-1 lead over Mallorca at the break and they got off to a great start when Benzema fired them ahead after just three minutes. Asensio then doubled their lead on 24 minutes with a close-range effort, but it didn’t stay 2-0 for long as Mallorca caught the hosts out at the back from the restart and Lee pulled one back. However, Asensio was soon back on the scoresheet, finishing off a lovely move to make it 3-1 just before the half an hour mark.

45′ + 2′ HALF-TIME: REAL MADRID 3-1 MALLORCA

45′ There will be a minimum of two minutes added time played at the end of the first half.

45′ SAVE! Vinicius goes close to scoring a fourth for Madrid! Benzema is once again involved, this time he chips the ball into the box and Asensio pulls it back to Vinicius, who drills a low shot at goal. However, Reina gets down quickly and makes a great save to his right.

43′ Decent effort! Asensio has a go from long range, but his effort is too close to Reina, who makes a comfortable save in the middle of his goal.

42′ There isn’t long left to play before the end of the first half, will we see any more goals before the half-time whistle?

40′ Stoppage in play here as Hoppe is down with a head injury after an aerial clash with Nacho in the Madrid penalty area and the Mallorca medical team are on the pitch giving him some treatment. However, he should be fine to continue.

38′ What a frantic period we’ve just had, three goals and we could have seen at least one more! There could be a few more in this one.

36′ CHANCE! Asensio almost completes his hat-trick! The midfielder was in the perfect place to latch onto a header across goal by Benzema and it looked like he had an empty goal to aim at. However, Valjent throws himself at the shot and makes a superb block on the line to prevent a fourth goal.

34′ Over the bar! Vinicius manages to find some space on the edge of the box and goes for goal, aiming for the top right corner of the net, but his effort is poor and flies well over the crossbar.

31′ We’re past the half an hour mark now and it’s been a hectic game so far, with Real Madrid currently beating Mallorca 3-1, thanks to an early Benzema strike and a brace from Asensio.

Real Madrid

29′ That’s a goal and assist now for Benzema, with the striker spotting the run of his team-mate in behind and he placed a perfectly timed pass into his path. Asensio then did the rest with a composed finish.

Real Madrid

29′ GOAL! Another goal for Asensio, he extends Madrid’s lead and makes it 3-1! It comes after more poor defending at the back, with Benzema easily feeding Asensio with a ball in behind and the midfielder was quickest to react, racing through on goal and firing it past Reina and into the back of the net.

27′ Real Madrid have won their last five home games against Mallorca in LaLiga, scoring 14 goals and conceding just three. They have never won six consecutive home matches against today’s opponents in the competition.

Mallorca

25′ Mallorca moved the ball quickly from the restart and caught Madrid out at the back, with Hoppe sliding the ball into the feet of Lee, who did the rest with an excellent finish.

Mallorca

25′ GOAL! Mallorca have pulled one back straight away, it’s 2-1! Madrid weren’t paying any attention at the back from the restart and the visitors have punished them. Hoppe finds Lee Kang-In on the edge of the penalty area, who evades challenges and curls the ball into the back of the net, leaving Courtois with no chance of stopping it.

Real Madrid

24′ GOAL! Asensio doubles Real Madrid’s lead, it’s 2-0! The move is started by Vinicius in the final third, who flicks the ball through to Rodrygo, who tries to square the ball into the six-yard box, but Reina makes the block. However, the rebound falls straight to Asensio, who pounces and converts from close range.

22′ The visitors have certainly come to life in the last few minutes, with Madrid needing to handle Lago Junior a lot better, as he looks like their biggest threat in front of goal.

20′ CLOSE! Lago Junior once again finds space in the final third after a lovely flick through by Kubo and the striker unleashes a powerful effort on goal, but it flies just over the crossbar. That would have been a great goal for Mallorca if it had gone in!

18′ Blocked! Good play by the visitors, they work it well and Lago Junior finds space just inside the penalty area and drills a low effort towards goal. However, Nacho does well to get across and makes a great block.

17′ The pace of the game has dropped slightly in the last few minutes, with Madrid not looking particularly eager to go on athe attack themselves and the visitors are starting to grow into the match.

15′ Decent spell of possession here for Mallorca, but Madrid are putting them under a lot of pressure high up the pitch, so they are unable to get into the final third to create anything.

13′ Mallorca are having to get everyone back to defend at the moment, in order to prevent Madrid from creating any goalscoring chances and doubling their lead early on. Which may potentially put the game beyond doubt.

11′ After going four league visits to Real Madrid without losing between 2000 and 2004 (W3 D1), a run which included their biggest away win in their top-flight history (5-1 in May 2003), Mallorca have since lost nine of their last 10 away games against Madrid in LaLiga (W1).

9′ Real Madrid look very comfortable in the opening few minutes of the game, they are dominating possession and are currently camped inside the Mallorca half of the pitch.

7′ ALMOST! Madrid go close to doubling their lead direct from a corner! Asensio whips an excellent delivery into the box and it curls dangerously towards the near post, so Reina has to punch it clear off his line. However, he doesn’t make great contact with it, but luckily Madrid can’t capitalise and Mallorca clear the danger.

5′ Decent effort! Kubo picks up a long ball over the top of the Madrid defence and he races down the right wing, before cutting inside and trying to find the bottom left corner of the net. However, his effort is off target and flies wide of goal.

Real Madrid

3′ GOAL! It’s taken only three minutes for Real Madrid to take the lead! Gaya makes a massive mistake at the back after a pass across from Valjent which Gaya tries to control, but his touch is far too heavy and Benzema nicks it off his toes. The striker then races through on goal and only has Reina to beat, which he coolly does, sliding the ball into the bottom left corner of the net to make it 1-0!

The teams are out on the pitch and kick-off is just a few minutes away, stay tuned for all the match action!
