Raiola Clarifies ‘Big Chance’ Remark After Mentioning Manchester City And Erling Haaland

Erling Haaland’s agent Mino Raiola has rowed back on comments he made in a recent interview with a German TV station.

The Dutch-born Italian had suggested that Haaland was likely to leave Borussia Dortmund next summer, and he mentioned four “big clubs”, including Manchester City, who the Norwegian international could join:

“There is a big chance that Erling will leave this summer. We will see. He can and will take the next step. Bayern [Munich], Real [Madrid], Barcelona, [Manchester] City – these are the big clubs he can go to. City have won the championship five times in the last few years, much more than [Manchester] United. We all knew when we moved to Dortmund that this step would come.”

However, Raiola took to Twitter yesterday to clarify his remarks, stating he was using those four teams merely as examples, and he doesn’t believe it is 100% certain that Haaland will move clubs:

Raiola’s suggestion of up to 15 teams means the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea and even Liverpool can’t be ruled out as possible destinations, but the way Haaland’s representative has previously spoken about United suggests he would advise the player against a move to Old Trafford.

In terms of financial muscle, City are undoubtedly a leading contender for Haaland but Raiola is a notoriously difficult customer, and there could be many twists and turns before next year.
