Oakland Roots Re-Sign Winger Jesus “Chuy” Enriquez

January 27, 2022 – United Soccer League Championship (USL) – Oakland Roots News Release

Oakland Roots have re-signed Santa Clara born, East Palo Alto raised attacker Jesus Enriquez better known to those around the Bay Area as “Chuy.” Enriquez was instrumental in Oakland Roots late season surge up the table rankings in 2021, as he scored in both the final two must win regular season games to help Roots clinch the playoffs in their inaugural USL season. Enriquez contributed with four goals and four assists good for second and first on the team respectively in those categories.

“Chuy’s creativity and ability to make plays on the ball, make him a very dangerous player in the attacking third,” said Roots Head Coach Juan Guerra. “But beyond his fantastic soccer qualities I knew I needed someone with his energy and positive spirit in our locker room. That type of spirit and energy is a must in a team and is not something that you can coach.”

From a very early age Enriquez moved to Tijuana to play for Xolos in Liga MX spending more than two years as a part of the club. Following his time in Mexico, Enriquez had the opportunity to return to the United States and play a pivotal role in the USL Championship for Rio Grande Valley where he would spend two seasons, making more than 60 appearances for the Texas side in 2018 and 2019. The 2020 season saw Enriquez split his time between San Antonio and Reno in the USL Championship, before coming to Oakland in 2021.
