New York City FC Drawn against Santos de Guápiles Fútbol Club in the Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League

December 15, 2021 – Major League Soccer (MLS) – New York City FC News Release

New York City FC will face Costa Rican club Santos de Guápiles Fútbol Club across two legs in the Round of 16 of the 2020 Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League following a draw conducted by the federation earlier tonight.

This will be NYCFC’s second involvement in the tournament after previously qualifying for the 2020 edition of the competition. On that occasion, the Club reached the quarterfinal stage before falling to Mexican side Tigres.

NYCFC qualified alongside 15 other teams after securing MLS Cup last week against Portland Timbers and will now face off in a two-legged tie against Santos de Guápiles in February.

Dates and times for the matches will be released in the coming days.

Santos de Guápiles qualified for the competition as the second best-ranked losing quarterfinalist in the 2021 Concacaf League. They also finished second in the Costa Rican Primera Division Clausura in 2021.

NYCFC will look to become the first American team to win the competition since the format changed in 2008.
