Newcastle United secured the second signing of the Saudi Arabian-era at the club on Thursday, as they announced the £27 million signing of Chris Wood from Burnley.
The New Zealand international follows full-back Kieran Trippier through the entrance at St. James’ Park, with the Englishman having completed a move from Atletico Madrid last week.
Former Tottenham man Trippier was heavily linked with a move to Manchester United in the weeks leading up to his return to the Premier League, but a move never materialised and he instead joined the Magpies.
United were left frustrated by their failure to prise Trippier away from the Spanish capital, although it appears that they could now be about to lose out for a second time in the wake of the deal.
As per Diario AS, the Red Devils now face a battle to keep hold of Diego Dalot, with the Portuguese full-back being lined up by Atletico as a replacement for the England international.
The Portugal international’s career at United looked to be coming to an end having fallen out of favour under previous manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, however he has worked his way back into the first team under new boss Ralf Rangnick.
The 22-year-old has even been selected ahead of Aaron Wan-Bissaka of late, with the Englishman’s performances this season leaving a lot to be desired compared to his first season in Manchester.
Dalot’s recent upturn in form has attracted the interest of Atletico, and it appears that United may have a battle on their hands to keep hold of the player.
Atletico boss Diego Simeone is believed to be keen on the former Porto man as he is able to place as both right-back and left-back.
It is unknown whether or not United would consider offers for Dalot, with his recent return to the first team making it more unlikely.
