Manchester United launch £60m opening offer for Sancho

Manchester United have reportedly launched an opening offer of £60m to sign Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho.

Sancho was the Red Devils’ leading target during last summer’s window, though a move failed to materialise despite months of speculation as United refused to meet Dortmund’s British transfer record asking price of around £108m.

That figure has lowered this time around with Dortmund more willing to sanction Sancho’s sale, though the Premier League side’s opening offer is still someway short of the German’s valuation.

Bild are reporting United have made a bid of £60m to sign the England international, despite widespread reports that Dortmund had set an asking price of around €90m (£77.5m) plus bonuses.

Dortmund are open to the sale of Sancho this summer if their valuation of the star is met, with the winger’s departure set to raise funds for the German’s own summer recruitment.

The Bundesliga side showed their determination in sticking to their asking price last summer, and recent reports have claimed that they are keen for a deal to be done before the end of July, otherwise, they will once again keep hold of one of their most prized assets.

While United have a habit of submitting a low opening offer, the fact it has come so early in the window could signal their determination to get a deal done and avoid yet another prolonged transfer saga.

United are already believed to have agreed personal terms with the 21-year-old, who scored 16 goals and provided 14 assists across all competitions last season.

Sancho is currently with the England squad preparing for Euro 2020, with the Three Lions set to face Croatia in their opening group game on Sunday.
