Manchester United handed boost in pursuit of Premier League midfielder

Manchester United have been handed a huge boost in their pursuit of Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans, according to reports.

As per Ben Jacobs of CBS Sports, United’s chances of landing the Belgian midfielder this summer have significantly increased, as two other Premier League clubs have been ruled out of the running.

West Ham United are believed to be an outsider to land the Foxes midfielder, while reported interest from Liverpool has no truth to it.

Tielemans has been arguably the Premier League’s best midfielder outside of the ‘top six’ since arriving in England from Monaco in 2019.

The 24-year-old has scored 24 goals and provided 22 assists in 146 matches for the Foxes across all competitions, and his sensational strike in last season’s FA Cup final against Chelsea earned them the trophy for the first time in their history.

Tielemans is being chased by a number of top flight clubs

While United are considered to be among the favourites to land Tielemans, Arsenal are also chasing the player, and the two clubs could go head-to-head to try to land the player at the end of the season.

The player’ current deal is due to expire next summer, meaning that this summer could be Leicester’s last chance of commanding a big fee for the midfielder, if he decides not to sign an extension with his current employers.

United are in the market for a midfielder to bolster and add balance to their underperforming midfield.

The Red Devils’ frailties were highlighted on Saturday, as they succumbed to a 1-0 defeat to lowly Everton, who had managed just one win in seven league games prior.

Arsenal and United’s mutual interest in Tielemans will add an extra incentive to the two clubs’ battle for the top four, as the Belgian has previously spoken of his desire to play in the Champions League.
