Manchester City plot shock move for one of football’s most expensive players in history | Shoot

With just weeks to go until the transfer window officially reopens, this summer is already shaping up to be one of the most exciting in recent memory.

A number of the world’s biggest and most exciting talents have been linked with potential moves to the Premier League, notably Achraf Hakimi, Erling Braut Haaland and Jadon Sancho.

Tottenham talisman Harry Kane has also been heavily tipped for a move, with Manchester City deemed to be his most likely destination.

Pep Guardiola’s side are also favourites to sign Borussia Dortmund’s Haaland, however it appears that they may have identified an alternative if they fail to secure either of their top priorities.

According to Eurosport, City are planning a sensational move for Atletico Madrid’s Joao Felix, potentially offering Bernardo Silva as part of a player-plus-cash deal.

Felix became the fourth most expensive player of all time when he joined Atletico from Benfica in 2019

The 21-year-old, who joined Atleti from Benfica for a staggering £113 million in 2019, has scored 19 goals in 79 appearances for the Spanish side, and is currently representing Portugal at Euro 2020.

Silva could be used to tempt Atletico into agreeing to sell his fellow countryman, with City reportedly open to the idea of selling the midfielder this summer in order to fund moves for Haaland and Kane.

It is believed that Silva is the most likely big-name to depart the Etihad this summer, and that the player is keen on a move to La Liga.

City are yet to replace all-time record goalscorer Sergio Aguero, who departed the club at the end of the season after a nine-year stay, before joining Barcelona on a free transfer.

Guardiola is keen to bolster his attacking options after failing once again to win the Champions League with City, after a 1-0 defeat to Chelsea in the final in May.

While City may be interested in Felix, it appears that Kane and Haaland remain their priorities and a move for Felix would only be likely if they fail to sign both players.
