Manchester City ‘currently in pole position’ to land Erling Haaland

That’s right, the 2021 summer transfer window has not been shut 24 hours, but we are already looking ahead to next year’s window.

Man City miss out on a striker

Manchester City were able to win the 2020/21 Premier League campaign without using a recognised striker that often.

Sergio Aguero would be sidelined for much of the season and has since departed the club, whilst Gabriel Jesus was used sparingly and sometimes in a wide role rather than as a centre-forward.

And whilst City were able achieve success using a false-nine approach, it was quite clear this summer they were after a new no.9.

The main striker they would look at this summer was Harry Kane, with City making at least two offers before Spurs chairman Daniel Levy began refusing to negotiate:

City’s pursuit would end, though, when Kane confirmed on August 25th that he was staying at Spurs this summer:

There was then talk that Cristiano Ronaldo could be on his way to the Etihad.

However, Manchester United would move for Ronaldo as they ‘could not bear’ the prospect of him signing for City.

Man City & Haaland

This has left Man City without a proper no.9 until at least the January window.

Now though, the Manchester powerhouse are being linked with Erling Haaland.

It has been reported for a while now that the Norwegian is expected to have a release clause that becomes active in the summer of 2022. It has previously been suggested it is between €75 and €100m

Now, Sport Witness citing German outlet Bild, report that Haaland’s asking price will be set at €75m, plus an additional payment in bonuses, in 2022.

The same report adds that Man City are currently in pole position to land the hitman

They go on to explain that City will have the financial means to afford his transfer fee, wages and agent commission. However, Pep Guardiola would have to choose whether to sign Haaland or make another approach for Kane.

Five managers Arsenal could realistically sound out to replace Mikel Arteta
