Leeds United: Journalist talks about Matheus Cunha links

[ad_1]

Leeds United journalist Joe Mewis has recently talked about the club’s links with a move for Hertha Berlin’s Matheus Cunha.

Cunha has been linked with a move to Elland Road in recent weeks, but the Whites have been told to pay a fee of £30m to sign the Brazilian this summer. Hertha are believed to be playing hardball and talks with Leeds haven’t restarted since the initial discussions.

Mewis appeared on the most recent episode of The Blue, White and Yellow podcast and talked about Cunha and the rumours about his move to Leeds. He believes that the Whites won’t sign the Hertha star and he’s only been one of the players on Victor Orta’s long list of targets.

Do you see Leeds signing Cunha at any point?

Yes

No

No

He said: “He’s been on this long list, he’s a player Leeds have looked at – bear in mind, it’s the scouting department’s job to look at a lot of players. If we got a peek inside Victor Orta’s database, you would see so many names on there, wouldn’t you? This is what they do, they check everyone.

“I can’t see this one happening. It’s more than Leeds want to pay for someone of that role.”

TIF Thoughts on Cunha to Leeds…

Cunha, during his time at Hertha so far, has played 39 games in all competitions and he has directly contributed to 23 goals for the club from the German capital, which is an impressive tally. According to FBRef, he is considered to be most similar to Leeds winger Raphinha.

Leeds’ all-time top Premier League goalscorer is Mark Viduka but how many did he score?

It shows pretty much why Leeds might like the Brazilian, as he also thrives on pressuring the opposition and Marcelo Bielsa’s system depends on a lot on pressing high up the pitch. So stylistically, Cunha would fit Leeds in many ways and even though they may not be able to sign him now, he should be considered a future target by the club.
