You may have noticed, but Cristiano Ronaldo is now a Manchester United player.
The five-time Ballon D’Or winner returned to the club this season, 12 years after departing the club for Real Madrid for a record breaking £80million transfer fee.
After he returned from international duty early, there are hopes he could make his United debut against Newcastle United.
However, while the excitement for the Portuguese has been high, his previous side Juventus were very disappointed in the manner of his exit.
Club president Federico Cherubini said it was impossible for the 36-year-old to remain with the Turin club.
“There was not any possibility to keep him, also for the way he talked to us,” Cherubini told Tuttosport.
“There could not have been a different ending. He was very direct in communicating his intentions in those days. We can not force a person to stay in a context he no longer identifies with.”
Juventus reacted to his exit by re-signing forgotten Everton forward Moise Kean; however, Cherubini said there was no pressure on him to match Ronaldo’s influence.
“When Ronaldo told us he wanted out, we immediately moved up our future plans,” said the Juventus president.
“Moise Kean is not his replacement, but one of the pieces to keep winning with a different project – our ambition is to have a competitive squad, as always.”
