Speaking ahead of tomorrow’s Derby du Nord clash against Lens tomorrow, Lille manager Jocelyn Gourvennec made sure to emphasise the impressive start to the season that Les Dogues’ upcoming opponents have had.
His words transcribed in L’Équipe, the LOSC coach also gave injury updates on a number of key players, including Renato Sanches and Jonathan Bamba – the Portuguese international has a knee injury and the Frenchman a thigh issue.
“We still have Renato [Sanches] and Jo [Bamba] who are at the recovery stage, and we’re getting Timothy Weah back. Renato and Jo are doing well, they’re working hard, but we’re not at a stage where we can give you a date for their return, whether that’s in training or for matchdays. Timothy has been at every training session since the Wolfsburg game. He’s very dynamic, it’s great to see him like that. He was very upset to be injured, he’s a very cheerful person, he had a period where he was sad. But it’s good that he has that communicative energy.”
“The dynamic is on the side of Lens, they’ve had a great start to the season, with two wins and three draws. They are consistent, we have to congratulate them on that. I’ve known Franck Haise well for a while now. They had a great season [last year] for a promoted side. I would like to believe that they were even a team made for European competition, but they hit a bend in their last three-four games.”
