Ian Wright and Tim Sherwood did not agree on the controversial incident in the match between Rafael Benitez’s Everton and Antonio Conte’s Tottenham Hotspur.

What’s the story?

Everton and Tottenham played out a goalless draw at Goodison Park in the Premier League today.

It was not the best of games this season.

However, there was one particular incident that will be talked about for a while.

It happened in the second half.

Referee Chris Kavanagh awarded Everton a penalty.

Kavanagh judged that Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris had brought down Everton forward Richarlison.

However, the referee overturned his decision after consulting the pitchside monitor.

Kavanagh felt that Spurs goalkeeper Lloris has got a fingertip to the ball.

Arsenal legend Wright and former Tottenham manager Sherwood were following the match.

The two pundits did not agree with each other.

Sherwood said that it was the wrong decision, but Wright felt that it was right.

Wright said on Premier League Productions: “Richarlison looks like he is ready to go down now anyway.

“He has kind of like taken him out, he has impeded him a little bit, but he does get up. The thing with it is that Richarlison has got up and is ready to play on.”

Sherwood said: “Now, Hugo might have got a slight touch on it, but then his follow-through definitely brings down Richarlison. His body and his right arms sweeps Richarlison down.”

Former Tottenham midfielder Michael Brown said on BBC Sport: “We’re never actually going to clear this up about obvious errors, we’ll all disagree.

“We’ve seen professionals, managers, people down the pub, we can’t always agree on this wonderful game. Ultimately, Hugo Lloris has touched the ball and it’s not a penalty.”

Tottenham manager Conte will be pleased that his side kept a clean sheet.

However, the former Chelsea and Inter Milan boss will not be happy that his side failed to create chances and could not really put the Everton backline under pressure.
