Group E – Sweden vs Poland – Sport Grill

Sweden meet Poland in their final Group E clash at Krestovsky Stadium, Saint Petersburg, Russia, at Euro 2020 as both teams look to secure a place in the knockout stages.

Victory would see Sweden advance as Group E winners although a point would be enough if Slovakia fail to beat Spain elsewhere, whereas Poland must win and hope Spain fail to defeat Slovakia if they’re to stand any chance at progressing to the knockouts.

Sweden have no fresh injury concerns to report with a full squad in contention after Friday’s win over Slovakia.

Poland will welcome Grzegorz Krychowiak back from suspension after he missed Saturday’s 1-1 draw against Spain, after being red carded in their opening Group E loss to Slovakia.

Stat Attack

  • Sweden lost their only previous meeting against Poland at a major tournament, losing 1-0 in Group B at 1974 FIFA World Cup.
  • Poland have won just one of their last 11 meetings against Sweden in all competitions (W1, D1, L9).
  • No team in Group E has produced more attempted clearances in their opening two games than Sweden, who have attempted 69 clearances across their games against Spain and Slovakia.
  • Robert Lewandowski is the only Polish player to have scored more than once across all four of Poland’s draws in 2021 in all competitions.
  • Sweden have conceded just once in their seven matches in 2021 across all competitions (W6, D1).

Prediction

Sweden come into this game in a good position to qualify for the knockout stage although they were certainly made to work for their win over Slovakia, which came via a penalty kick but their defence is yet to concede after two excellent performances.

Poland meanwhile delivered a cracking defensive display against Spain to earn a point after forcing a clinical equaliser, yet they do need to show better finishing if they’re to stand any chance of advancing to the knockout stages as only victory will do.

The first goal therefore is going to be key because if Sweden score first, I can see them holding out for a win if not draw whereas Poland should get the win if they strike first.

Prediction: Sweden 0-1 Poland
