Low’s side have ‘zest’
Germany have been dealt a blow ahead of their pivotal Euro 2020 group clash with France.
The group of death, as it has been called also containing Portugal and Hungary, could see one of the biggest nations in the tournament get knocked out.
The games between the big three are what will determine who claims top spot and a simpler task in the round of 16.
Germany will have the advantage of playing at home in Munich with the support of their crowd. Head coach Joachim Low, who will step down at the end of the tournament, said that his side have ‘ambition and zest.’
“It’s great anticipation because we’re going to play against the reigning world champion. We have prepared ourselves very well over the past two weeks and have taken a few steps in the right direction,” said Löw.
“There is a good atmosphere, but also a lot of ambition and zest for action in the team. We are well prepared and look forward to getting started.”
However, Low will be missing some crucial members of the team.
Bayern duo and Chelsea target out
Bayern Munich pair Leon Goretzka and Jamal Musiala will both not be available.
Musiala, who spent much of his childhood in England, has broken through in Bavaria this season and decided to represent Germany despite playing for England’s youth teams up to under-21 level.
He along with Goretzka, a crucial midfield figure for Low, will not be there. Also, Borussia Monchengladbach’s Jonas Hofmann will miss the battle.

Chelsea have been linked with a move for Hofmann for some time having impressed under outgoing coach Marco Rose who is set to take over at Borussia Monchengladbach.

Despite the losses, Low has the quality to cover. Musiala may not have been expected to start but Goretzka certainly would have done. However, a combination of Ilkay Gundogan and Toni Kroos will be an experienced and quality pairing in his stead.
Hofmann could have started in a wide area however an attacking trio of Thomas Muller, Serge Gnabry and Kai Havertz could be used. With Leroy Sane and Timo Werner alternative options.
