Jamie O’Hara slammed the claims from Andros Townsend that Tottenham should appoint Ryan Mason as their new manager.
The former midfielder told talkSPORT on Monday morning that Tottenham need to appoint a ‘proper’ manager rather than someone like Mason.
Tottenham fans are still waiting for a new face to take the reigns in North London, with it being over two months since Daniel Levy sacked Jose Mourinho.
Crystal Palace winger, Townsend, suggested that it should go to his former teammate, but O’Hara wasn’t having any of it.
“Come on, man,” said O’Hara. “Ryan Mason? Come on!
“Andros, I’m all for looking after your mates and stuff, but no! Absolutely not. It was a mockery we got rid of Jose Mourinho in the first place.
“I like Ryan. He’s young. But he’s 29-years-old. He’s taken over a team at the end of the season that’s bang average.
“We are in the Europa League conference. We need to get a proper manager. Not somebody who is part of the football club and be the yes man for Daniel Levy. No! We need a manager that’s going to take the club forward.”
Given the mess Tottenham are in, someone like Mason probably seems their best bet, that’s how bad things are falling apart.
But there’s no way he should be handed the reigns because then it would just be a power-like appointment from Daniel Levy.
Spurs need a manager who will challenge the club’s chairman, mainly on transfers, so the club can move forward again.
Otherwise, just like Tottenham’s managerial search, they will just continue to stand still in their quest to win trophies and get back into the Champions League.
