Ex-Arsenal boss Unai Emery set to become next Newcastle manager

Unai Emery is set for a sensational return to the Premier League and become the next Newcastle manager, possibly in-time for the weekend’s fixture against Brighton – according to Sky Sports News.

Emery, who turns 50 on Wednesday, is said to believe he has ‘unfinished business’ in England after a sour end to his tenure at Arsenal, and is set to be tasked with a big transfer budget in the north east, as well as a relegation scrap.

Since leaving Arsenal, Unai Emery has successfully lifted the Europa League with Spanish side Villarreal, so the report claims it will cost Newcastle around £5million in compensation to bring the Spaniard back to England.

Emery left Arsenal with a record of 43 wins, 15 draws and 20 defeats in 78 matches, failing to win any silverware, but the Gunners did reach the Europa League final in 2019 – losing 4-1 to Chelsea.
