Everton forward Emslie named by Angel City in NWSL Expansion Draft

Everton forward Claire Emslie seems set for a return to the United States with National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) expansion team Angel City having announced her signing as part of the 2022 NWSL Expansion Draft.

The Scotland international is one of four players to have been announced by Angel City with FAWSL Full-Time informed of the news via an official press release.

Emslie is no stranger to the United States, she spent three years Stateside playing college football with Florida Atlantic Owls where she held the record for the second highest number of shots on goal while she later played for Marc Skinner during his time in charge of NWSL club Orlando Pride.

The forward’s contract with Everton is set to run out at the end of the season but Angel City have now traded in her US rights from Orlando Pride.

Emslie joined Everton on loan from Orlando Pride ahead of the 2020/2021 season and she made her move permanent in December 2020, signing an 18-month deal on Merseyside. The forward has scored four goals in 26 appearances for The Blue Girls in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League.

The player is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury but should be fit for action again after the Christmas break.
