Diego Llorente has recorded two negative COVID-19 tests and can rejoin the Spain squad ahead of the European Championship.
The Leeds defender had departed the camp distraught having returned a positive test, but just two days later he is experiencing emotions at the other end of the spectrum, with his tournament dream back on.
Llorente, who had been asymptomatic and isolating at home, returned his first negative in the early hours of Thursday morning and his second hours after that.
Such is the short turnaround that this could be a case of a false positive, which may be down to contamination of the sample in the laboratory.
Spain coach Luis Enrique had considered bringing in a replacement for Llorente, but he has shelved this idea given the good news. Villarreal centre-back Raul Albiol has been training in a parallel bubble, yet it now seems that he will not be needed.
Llorente‘s negative tests are a huge relief for the player, and he is expected to train with the squad on Friday afternoon.
