Spain’s Covid-19 situation, pick Lewandowski & captain Torres

Robert Lewandowski

Euro Fantasy Football, June 14th updates

Monday’s Euro 2020 action once again sees three games taking place.

The first of these is the remaining game from England’s group, as Scotland face off with the Czech Republic.

A loss for Scotland could be a huge blow to their hopes of making it out of the group as it is arguably their easiest tie in Group D.

Group E will then get underway in the following tie when Poland host Slovakia. This, like the Scotland clash, could have a huge bearing on who secures second spot in this group.

And the final game of the day will see Spain, who are the favourites to top Group E, play host to Sweden.

Injury news

Scotland: Billy Gilmour was taken off at the end of Scotland’s last friendly vs Luxembourg after being on the receiving end of a rough tackle. Steve Clarke, however, has since confirmed the midfielder is ok.

John Fleck is a ‘long shot’ to make the game vs the Czech Republic after he was forced to isolate after testing positive for Covid-19.

Czech Republic: Like Scotland, the Czech Republic have two injury/fitness concerns ahead of Monday with both Ondrej Celustka and Tomas Kalas potential doubts.

Czech Republic’s manager had this to say on the pair last week:

“The doctors will let me know if they are available for the match against Scotland. “For Tomas Kalas, this is a more detailed examination, which he undergoes after his return to Prague. He himself says it should be good.”

Poland: Poland have no new injury concerns ahead of their opening game, though it is worth noting that they are without two forwards for the tournament with Krzysztof Piatek and Arkadiusz Milik both missing out on the 26-man squad due to injury.

Slovakia: Slovakia have no injury issues ahead of their meeting with Poland.

Spain: Spain’s Euro 2020 preparation would take a hit when Sergio Busquets contracted Covid-19 earlier this month.

This led to the Spaniards having to play their under-21 side in their last friendly whilst the first team isolated.

Spain have since begun training together again, though Busquets and Diego Llorente will miss Monday’s game as they are isolating.

EFF daily: Spain’s Covid-19 situation, pick Robert Lewandowski & captain Ferran Torres

Sweden: Dejan Kulusevski and Mattias Svanberg are both set to miss the Spain game after testing positive for Covid-19.

Top 3 players to pick: Ferran Torres, Pau Torres, Robert Lewandowski

Ferran Torres, Spain (8m)

With midfielders earning five points for a goal and an extra point for long-range goals, Ferran Torres could be set to be one of the best budget options at Euro 2020.

Despite being a midfielder on EFF, the Manchester City man is used in a fairly advanced role for Spain.

This has seen Torres become one Spain’s biggest goalscoring threats in recent times, netting six in his 11 outings for La Furia Roja.

And, though Sweden are perhaps underestimated by some, Spain should have little issues seeing them off this week, with Torres more than likely to be involved in any goals scored on Monday.

Pau Torres, Spain (4.5m)

Sticking with Spain, Pau Torres, like Ferran Torres, looks set to be a solid budget option on EFF this term.

With Sergio Ramos not included in the squad this summer, Pau Torres should be a nailed-on starter in Spain’s backline this summer alongside Aymeric Laporte.

And, on paper, Spain should be able to keep clean sheets against all three of their group opponents this summer.

So, 4.5m looks to be a great price for a starting centre-back who has a chance of keeping a clean sheet in his first three games.

Robert Lewandowski, Poland (11.5m)

The final player you should look to sign on Monday is Poland’s Robert Lewandowski.

Poland are not the best of sides. However, they have a decent chance of finishing 2nd in their group.

They should also be able to see off a fairly weak Slovakia side whose recent results include draws with Cyprus, Malta and Bulgaria.

And, of course, Robert Lewandowski is by far and away Poland’s best player, with the 32-year-old perhaps the best centre-forward at Euro 2020 also.

He has previously scored 66 and assisted 23 in 119 for Poland and should be amongst the goals on Monday.

Captain of the day: Ferran Torres

Of the three players above, Ferran Torres should be the best captain choice.

Torres is a big goalscoring threat for Spain and as he is a midfielder on EFF, he will get an extra point for goals scored, meaning he could potentially be set for a big return this week.
