EPL Wrap: Guardiola Hails Man City After Winning at Chelsea

Manchester City made a big statement in the English Premier League title race with a 1-0 victory at Chelsea on Saturday, with Pep Guardiola labeling his side’s best performance this season.

The result, secured after Gabriel Jesus’ 53rd minute winner, moves City up to second spot on the table, behind leaders Liverpool who are the only remaining unbeaten side.

“I would say [it’s our best] this season,” Guardiola said. “In the last months we have done many good games otherwise you cannot win the Premier League and be runners-up in Champions League.

“Its incredible what these players have done. People say the Champions League was a disaster. We played 13 games, won 11, drew one and lost one.

“When this happens it is exceptional, that helps us and now we go to Paris to play.

“I have the feeling the players are there and want to do another good season for our people.”

Elsewhere, Kortney Hause headed in a late winner as Aston Villa stunned Manchester United 1-0 at Old Trafford.

However, United should have leveled in stoppage time when they won a penalty, but Bruno Fernandes blazed way over the crossbar.

Liverpool conceded three goals as they drew 3-3 with newly promoted Brentford, despite Curtis Jones’ 67th minute strike putting them 3-2 up.

Michail Antonio returned from suspension to score the winner for West Ham United in a 2-1 away victory at Leeds United, while Everton beat Norwich City 2-0 at home.

James Vardy scored twice along with an own goal as Leicester City drew 2-2 with Burnley, while Watford and Newcastle ended 1-1.
