I’m pretty sure you didn’t miss it, but there was a pretty damn good game of football on last night.

The Euros are coming to an end, but what an end to the competition we are having.

Italy beat Spain on penalties last night after what was a magnificent game of football, neither side deserved to lose, and it was Chelsea’s vice-captain Jorginho who stepped up to score the decisive penalty.

But it was commiserations for our captain Cesar Azpilicueta, who was unfortunately on the losing side on the night.

However, there was one unsung hero for Italy who perhaps did as much for his club as he did for his country last night, and that was the fine performance of Emerson Palmieri.

Chelsea have put him on the market this summer, but they are reportedly holding out for 25 million euros to sell him. This seems a bit steep for a player who has largely just been a third choice left back for the club in recent times.

But his performance for Italy in the shop window last night would certainly have helped Chelsea’s case in getting as much money for him as they possibly can, with a number of interested teams in Italy.

Emerson stepped up a number of gears and really made sure he turned up for his country last night. He genuinely deserves the next move to be his best one and he deserves to be getting more game time, there really is a decent player in there, and he is always selected in the Italian squad.

The next few weeks will be interesting to see where his future goes.
