July 5, 2021 – Major League Soccer (MLS) News Release
NEW YORK – Chicago Fire FC forward Ignacio Aliseda has been voted the Major League Soccer Player of the Week for Week 11 of the 2021 MLS season.
Aliseda scored a pair of goals and added an assist as Fire FC took a 3-0 win against Atlanta United at Soldier Field on Saturday evening.
Aliseda gave the Fire the lead in the 34th minute on Saturday when he took a pass just outside the penalty area and sent a shot goalward which took a deflection as it looped over the goalkeeper before crashing off the underside of the crossbar and just over the goal line.
Aliseda then doubled the Fire lead and increased his tally on the evening in first-half stoppage time, collecting the ball just outside the box before curling home inside the right post. The 21-year-old then capped off his evening by finishing off a fast break, laying the ball into the path of Przemyslaw Frankowski to race in and drive home the Fire’s third goal of the night.
The goals were the first of the season for Aliseda, a Young Designated Player from Argentina, and the second and third of his MLS career. It was his first career multiple-goal game in the league, in his second season, and the first time he’s been involved in three goals in an MLS game.
Aliseda and Fire FC return to action on Wednesday evening when they play host to Orlando City SC at Soldier Field (8 p.m. ET).
The MLS Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season through both media and fan voting in a process conducted by MLS Communications. A panel of journalists from the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) comprises 75 percent of the vote, while a Twitter fan vote represents the remaining 25 percent of voting. NASR consists of members of print, television, radio and online media.
