Chelsea continue talks with Dortmund over move for winger | Shoot

The Thomas Tuchel era at Chelsea has seen a remarkable improvement in the Blues’ defensive capability and rigidity, epitomised by the club’s 1-1 draw with Liverpool on Saturday.

Having gone ahead early on, Tuchel’s side found themselves level and a man down after Reece James was sent off for a deliberate handball and Mo Salah converted the subsequent penalty.

Despite playing more than half of the match with ten men, the Blues held on to secure a valuable point.

The result was a good marker of just how far the club have come in Tuchel’s eight months in charge, during which time he has won the Champions League and UEFA Super Cup and also reached the final of the FA Cup.

One slight negative of Tuchel’s time in charge, however, has perhaps been his reluctance to use young players quite as frequently as previous boss Frank Lampard did.

Tuchel has sent Billy Gilmour and Conor Gallagher out on loan this season, and also sold striker Tammy Abraham, who finished both of the past two seasons as the club’s top scorer across all competitions.

Now, it appears that another of the club’s academy graduates could be on his way out of Stamford Bridge.

According to Sky Sports, winger Callum Hudson-Odoi could be on his way to Germany, to join Borussia Dortmund on a season-long loan deal.

Hudson-Odoi played in Chelsea’s penalty shoot-out Super Cup victory over Villarreal.

The 20-year-old struggled for game time under Tuchel last term, starting just seven of the 19 league games that the German was in charge for, and is yet to feature in the league this season.

Hudson-Odoi was heavily linked with a permanent move to Bayern Munich two years ago, after breaking into the Chelsea first team.

However, he stayed and impressed during Frank Lampard’s time in charge.

The report says that, while talks are ongoing with Dortmund, Tuchel is reluctant to let the player leave and would prefer for him to stay and fight for his place in the team.

Chelsea will reportedly make a decision regarding the player, who has also been the subject of a permanent offer from an unnamed Premier League club, in the coming hours.
