Napoli rose into top spot with a 2-1 win on Sunday over Lazio as Fabian Ruiz scored a 90th minute winner, leapfrogging them above both AC Milan and Inter Milan.

The Rossoneri had drawn 1-1 with Udinese on Friday night, followed by the Nerazzurri being held to a goalless draw at Genoa, opening the door for Napoli. Juventus also are quietly gaining ground on the top trio with their 3-2 win at Empoli meaning they are within seven points of the leaders now. Atalanta play Sampdoria on Monday.

Liverpool and Chelsea did not play in the league over the weekend, with the Reds lifting the EFL Cup in Sunday’s final against the Blues. As a result, Manchester City had the chance to go seven points clear and they took it, with Phil Foden’s late goal clinching a 1-0 win at Everton.

Manchester United failed to take their chance to make ground on the top three, held to a 0-0 home draw with struggling Watford, while fifth-placed West Ham United closed the gap on them with a 1-0 win over Wolverhampton on Sunday. Leeds United slipped to a 4-0 home loss to Tottenham, meaning they slide closer to the drop zone and have lost four in a row, leading to Marcelo Bielsa’s exit.

Second-placed Sevilla beat third-placed Real Betis 2-1 in the Seville derby, meaning they didn’t drop points and were able to keep up the chase in an awkward fixture.

Barcelona are also keeping up the pace suddenly, with some positive results flowing after a 4-0 home win over Athletic Bilbao where Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang netted a first-half goal, before the floodgates opened in the final 20 minutes.
