Changchun Yatai’s attacking line has been bolstered by the re-signing of popular Chinese striker Tan Long.
The 32-year-old was at the centre of interest from other clubs around the Chinese Super League, with a transfer to Shanghai Port originally in the works before a deal seemingly fell apart.
The Dalian, Liaoning native has now returned to Changchun and signed a new deal to remain a part of Chen Yang’s squad, where he will play alongside Serginho and recent signing Erik Lima, with Junior Negrao still a potential signing.
Tan Long has had arguably the best period of his career his arriving in the northeast of China ahead of the 2017 Chinese Super League season, going on to make 105 total appearances for the club, scoring 45 goals and adding a further 15 assists.
While Changchun Yatai suffered relegation to China League One in 2018, Tan Long has proven himself to be better than the second tier after finishing the 2019 season as China League One MVP and the 2020 campaign as the top goalscorer in the league with 11 in just 15 matches.
Chen Yang’s side will be hoping to have a strong season in their return to the top tier, avoiding a relegation battle, and some of the signings reportedly made by the club so far this off-season look to be positive.
Erik is confirmed, Negrao would be a significant addition up front and the likes of Jores Okore, Wang Peng, Jiang Zhe and Mao Kaiyu are all reportedly set to join the club ahead of the 2021 season, seeing the club bolster a squad that was already good enough to go unbeaten in the China League One promotion round last season.
With such an influential player such as Tan Long returning, the club will have high hopes for the upcoming season and retaining their position in the top tier of Chinese football will be a more realistic target.
