Changchun Yatai sign Brazilian striker Júnior Negrão – Wild East Football

After months of rumours, Changchun Yatai have officially signed veteran Brazillian striker Júnior Negrão on a free transfer.

The 34-year-old recently left South Korean club Ulsan Hyundai after a hugely successful three-year spell that resulted in three consecutive Team of the Year appearances and an AFC Champions League title in 2020.

The Salvador native was prolific for the K-League club, scoring 84 goals and adding a further nine assists in 125 appearances in all competitions – finishing the 2020 season as the league’s top goalscorer with 26.

Negrão also finished as the joint-top goalscorer in the 2020 AFC Champions League, helping the Tigers to the second continental title in their history, culminating the most successful period of the veteran striker’s career.

With Negrão’s deal expiring, the Brazilian made the decision to look elsewhere for new opportunities and will join fellow countrymen Lucas Souza, Erik Lima and Serginho at Changchun Yatai – providing the club with a truly potent attacking force.

An attacking front of Erik, Negrão and Tan Long with Serginho sitting in the Number 10 spot makes Changchun Yatai significantly improved from their China League One-winning season, hopefully setting them up for a strong return season in the Chinese Super League.

The Chinese transfer window is set to close this week, with reports that the north-eastern club could still sign Danish centre back Jores Okore, and other domestic signings such as Wang Peng, Zhang Yu and Mao Kaiyu still not officially announced.

While the start of the new season has yet to be announced, Changchun Yatai will be one club eager to get going and see how far Chen Yang can take them, led by an exceptional striking core.
