Aston Villa returned to pre-season training today as they look to prepare for the 2021-2022 Premier League season.
The government announced this evening that stadiums will be allowed to welcome back capacity crowds from July 19th meaning Villa’s first home game of the season against Newcastle is likely to be an emotional return.
It has been very clear to most that Villa have lofty ambitions this coming season. The opening odds for the 2022 Premier League, the Villa (+15000) within the top 10 teams to win the championship according to SportsBettingDime.com. Winning the Premier League maybe a step too far this season but some will believe they should be at least challenging for a European spot.
There is a real good feeling amongst Villa fans at the moment and it’s easy to see why.

NWSE have done nothing but good things since their arrival in 2018. As Gregg Evans stated in the recent Villa Generals Podcast, Villa had been on a downward spiral since Martin O’Neill’s departure in 2010.
Apart from the obvious investment, we now have competitive sides in both the male and female first teams. The intent is there right through the Academy also.
Many sections of the media have stated that Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens would love nothing more than throw more money to speed up the process but despite FFP rules being relaxed this summer, rules are still in place. And to be honest, from my point of view they are doing things the right way.
Summer transfer business
Aston Villa have already completed the signings of Emi Buendia and Ashley Young. Two players with Premier League experience and both have the ability to improve Villa’s matchday squad.
One of those signings may be exciting while the other is more nostalgic but you can’t put a price on the experience and professionalism of Young.
Villa clearly isn’t finished there with daily links to Arsenal’s Emile Smith-Rowe. Will the deal get done? It will be difficult and to be honest, I think Arsenal would be crazy to sell one of their young assets unless of course, the player himself wants out. I have a feeling this one will go on for a little while yet.
If the deal doesn’t get done, Villa will have someone else lined up. I believe we have a very good recruitment team who will have done many hours of homework on each and every signing.
The biggest story this summer will no doubt be the future of Jack Grealish. Will he stay or will he go? We all hope our captain stays and I am sure everyone within the club hopes so too.
