Arsenal transfer blow as Inter Milan set to turn down January bid

It was starting to look like the perfect solution. Inter Milan were showing serious interest in signing goalkeeper Bernd Leno from Arsenal, in the January transfer window, however that now appears to be a deal looking increasingly unlikely.

As reported via Football.London, Inter were looking at doing a deal for the German in the region of £22.5million – as a long-term replacement for current number one Samir Handanovic.

Instead, Inter are now looking at the significantly cheaper alternative of Ajax’s Andre Onana, who could be available for as little as £7million due to being hit with a long-term playing ban – he is able to resume playing from January due to winning an appeal to shorten the initial punishment.

While Inter remains a possibility for Arsenal, if they are indeed aiming to ship out Leno this winter, the club will be desperate not to let the German’s contract run down or just end up losing even more value from his price-tag. Aaron Ramsdale’s promotion to number one has just seemingly escalated Leno’s exit route from the club.
