Akwa United defeated Heartland FC 3-1 at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo to return to the top of the NPFL at the expense of Kano Pillars and extend their unbeaten run in the league to 16 games. Charles Atshimene scored within three minutes of kickoff before he added a second a few minutes later to put his side 2-0 up. Chijioke Akuneto pulled one back for Heartland before halftime. Ubong Friday scored a third for Akwa United who move one point ahead of Kano Pillars on 49 points. Both sides will face at the weekend at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna.
Abia Warriors and MFM FC played out a goalless draw at the Soccer Temple in Agege. Both sides have extended their unbeaten runs in the league; Abia Warriors have drawn all of their past five games, and MFM are unbeaten in their last eight matches in the league.
