Rivers United defeated Enyimba FC 1-0 at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt in their rescheduled NPFL Matchday 11 encounter on Sunday, avenging their loss in the CAF Confederation Cup.
Rivers United welcomed back goalkeeper Theophilus Afelokhai and defender Ifeanyi Anaemena, both of whom joined the club from Enyimba, after they missed their last matches due to disciplinary action. They also fielded two new signings, Sunday Adetunji and Morice Chukwu, both of whom they acquired in the mid season break. It was a tightly contested affair with both teams not looking to give anything away before a bullet header from ex-Plateau United striker Adetunji in the 85th minute settled the encounter and gave the home side the victory.
The win over Enyimba ensured that Rivers United remain the only team in the NPFL to win all 9 of their home matches in the first stanza of the league, giving them a 100% home record this season. They move up to 5th on the log with 32 points, 4 points off leaders, Kwara United. Enyimba remain in eighth on 30 points but have three games in hand on Kwara United who are on top of the log.
