Sherrock makes history to book QF spot

Fallon Sherrock continued to break new ground as she became the first woman to reach the quarter-finals of the Grand Slam of Darts, setting up a clash against 2020 world champion Peter Wright on Saturday (Match betting – Wright 2/9, Sherrock 16/5).

It has been a history-making year or so for Sherrock, who became the first woman to win a main-draw match at the 2020 PDC World Championships, before eventually being knocked out in the third round.

The 27-year-old, who also became the first woman to reach a televised PDC final, but lost to three-time world champion Michael van Gerwen at the Nordic Darts Masters, made more history on Thursday evening after reaching the last-eight stage of the Grand Slam of Darts.

Sherrock came from 2-0 down to defeat Mensur Suljovic, who she also beat at the 2020 World Championships, by a comfortable 10-5 scoreline to set up a QF clash against Wright.

After her victory, Sherrock said: “I don’t know how I’m doing this, I’m so proud of myself. It wasn’t the greatest game but I’ll take the win.”

Van Gerwen and Michael Smith will face each other for a place in the semi-finals in Saturday’s other quarter-final tie (Match betting – Van Gerwen 3/10, Smith 5/2), but there are two other matches taking place before that on Friday.

James Wade and Rob Cross face off in the first quarter-final on Friday at 19:15 and ‘The Machine’ is 11/10 to advance into the next round, while ‘Voltage’ is 8/11 to progress.

Wade thrashed Rowby-John Rodriguez 10-2 in the previous round, averaging 98.09, while Cross defeated Ryan Joyce 10-4 to reach the last-eight stage for the first time since his tournament debut in 2017.

Friday’s second quarter-final will see world number one and current world champion Gerwyn Price take on Jonny Clayton in an all-Welsh battle – both players are priced at 10/11 to pick up the victory.
