Gerwyn Price and Michael van Gerwen both registered impressive victories in the second round of the European Championship to set up a mouth-watering quarter-final clash at the Salzburgarena in Austria.
Welshman Price, the world number one, boasted a 102.96 average as he destroyed Adam Gawlas 10-3 and he will now take on MVG for a place in the semi-finals, which also take place on Sunday, before the final later on this evening.
Dutch star Van Gerwen, who is 11/4 to lift the title, thumped Englishman James Wade 10-4 and there is huge excitement heading into the quarter-final tie, which promises to be an absolute cracker (Match betting – Price 4/5, MVG Evens).
Sunday’s first QF, which gets under way at 12:45, will pit Danny Noppert against Nathan Aspinall (Match betting – Noppert Evens, Aspinall 4/5) and the winner of that tie will take on either Van Gerwen or Price in the semi-finals.
Noppert racked up a 101.21 average in his 10-4 victory over Ryan Searle to reach this stage of the tournament, while Aspinall overcame Australian Damon Heta to move into the last-eight stage.
In the bottom half of the draw, Mensur Suljovic edged past Florian Hempel 10-9 to set up a quarter-final against Englishman Joe Cullen, who eased past Scotland’s William Borland 10-5 in round two (Match betting – Suljovic 13/10, Cullen 8/13).
The final last-eight clash will see Rob Cross, who ousted Brendan Dolan 10-4 in the second round, take on Jose de Sousa after he got the better of Luke Humphries 10-8 (Match betting – Cross 11/8, De Sousa 4/7).
The quarter-final matches are best-of-19 legs, while the semi-finals and the final are best-of-21 legs.
