Fallon Sherrock made history at the Grand Slam of Darts on Sunday as she recorded the highest televised average by a female player in her 5-0 whitewash of Mike de Decker in Wolverhampton (Sherrock 150/1 to win – outright).
The 27-year-old averaged 101.55 and scored four 180s on her way to a routine victory. Lisa Ashton set the previous record at the UK Open in March with an average of 100.30.
Sherrock’s first win in Group F means she still has a chance of reaching the knock-out stage of the tournament, but she must beat Gabriel Clemens 5-3 or better in her final group match to progress.
Speaking about her landmark win, Sherrock told reporters: “I am absolutely buzzing with that. To break the record average is insane. I’m proud of myself tonight.
“At the time, I wasn’t thinking about the average; I was just so focused on getting the win.
“I felt more relaxed going into today’s game, but I never expected to win 5-0.”
Dutchman Michael van Gerwen was also in red-hot form as he averaged 115.19 during a 5-2 win over Joe Cullen and he now needs to win just one leg in his final group game with John Henderson to book his place in the last 16.
Fellow Dutchman, Raymond van Barneveld, hammered Joe Davis 5-0, while Michael Smith beat Gary Anderson 5-2.
On Monday, Rowby-John Rodriguez faces a sudden-death clash against Stephen Bunting.
World number one Gerwyn Price faces Martin Schindler, while there are two cracking matches to look forward to.
James Wade and Rob Cross will do battle in Group C (Wade 13/10, Cross 8/13 – Match Betting), while in Group B, Jonny Clayton faces Mervyn King (Clayton 4/11, King 21/10 – Match Betting).
