Nicholas and Rafter Compete at NCAA East Prelims

Senior Angie Rafter and sophomore Eddie Nicholas of the Central Connecticut men’s and women’s track and field programs are competing at the NCAA Championships East Preliminaries in Bloomington, IN. The preliminaries are being held from May 25-28 qualifying athletes will compete at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Eugene, OR, in June.

The East Preliminary is being held at the Haugh Track & Field Complex on the campus of Indiana University. Tickets for single day admission are $15, while all sessions passes are $40 for adults and $35 for college students and youth (18 and under). Children two and under are free.

Athletes ranked among the top 48 in their respective event earned a berth into the NCAA East Preliminary Rounds. Athletes with the top 12 times/marks and the best 12 relay teams at both the East and West Preliminary Rounds sites qualify for the NCAA Championships in Eugene, OR. The 2022 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships will be held in Eugene, OR, on June 8-11 at Hayward Field.

SATURDAY PERFORMANCES | 5,000m Results

  • 5,000m Race – Rafter ran her second race of the weekend and turned in a time of 16:20.93. She placed 29th in the field of 48 runners.

FRIDAY PERFORMANCES | 3,000m Steeple Results

  • 3,000m Steeple Race – Nicholas competed in the 3,000m Men’s Steeplechase on Friday and turned in a time of 9:05.97. The time was good enough to place 32nd in the field of 48 runners. 

THURSDAY PERFORMANCES | 10,000m Results

  • 10,000m Race – Rafter ran her first race of the weekend in the 10,000m semifinal on Thursday evening. She turned in a time of 35:41.48 and placed 32nd. She will run the 5,000m on Saturday.
