Newcastle United may face more competition in their reported pursuit of Jordan Veretout, as Calciomercato claim Inter Milan have been offered the Roma star in a summer transfer.
An intermediary has now approached the San Siro outfit to offer the Frenchman’s services to Simone Inzaghi’s side. The Nerazzurri are in the market for new midfielders this summer as they look to add fresh ideas beside Marcelo Brozovic in areas their current options lack.
Inzaghi has a number of midfielders to call upon at the reigning Serie A champions. But the club wish to further bolster who he can call upon, having struggled to choose a first-choice to play with Brozovic. He has so far used seven different stars with the Croatian this term.
Agents keen to capitalise on Inter Milan’s search for midfielders have now proposed Roma ace Veretout as an option in recent weeks. They have also approached AC Milan to discuss a summer switch, having fallen out of favour at the Stadio Olimpico under Jose Mourinho.
Inter Milan now offered chance to sign Newcastle target Veretout from Roma
Inter or AC Milan exploring Veretout’s situation at Roma in view of a summer transfer may deal Newcastle a blow in their pursuit. Calciomercato reported earlier this month that the Toon are one of three clubs with Napoli and Marseille to present themselves as a suitor.
Marseille have already moved to buy the 29-year-old by offering €8m (£6.5m), but face paying €16m (£13.5m), per Calciomercato. So, the three-way race could become a five-way battle if either Milan outfit throws their hat into the ring for the Ancenis-born technician.
Despite falling out of favour in recent months, Veretout – who Eddie Howe has wanted to sign since 2015 – has struck four and assisted nine goals so far this term. Although his last strike came in week six of the Serie A season before 23 goalless Italian top-flight outings.
