I know it’s a very obvious statement saying that Chelsea are clearly missing two key players who have been out injured, but I am not sure we are taking into account just how badly we are missing them in an attacking sense, and just how important they are to our creativity.
I am of course talking about Reece James and Ben Chilwell, who before their injuries, had racked up 15 goals and assists between them this season so far.
It would be amazing if you guys subscribed for my project over at Si & Dan Talk Chelsea, where we are putting out so much Chelsea content including DAILY Newsletters, exclusive news, breaking news, Podcasts, interviews, inside information, and bringing in some massive guests!
When you take that threat out of a team and do not replace it for as long as we have done in the last couple of months, you are bound to notice a huge difference.
With respect to Marcos Alonso and Cesar Azpilicueta, they do not bring those numbers, they do not bring that threat, and they do not bring the qualities that James and Chilwell bring in the build up and attacking play.
They literally played as number 10s and were pinnacle to Thomas Tuchel’s system and style of play. Yes managers need to be able to adapt and that it what Tuchel is doing now, but we must not forget hot important this pair was/is for us in attack, and we should take that into consideration when we are once again watching our team fail to put a game to bed this week int he 1-0 win over Al-Hilal.
Their creativity and distribution of their passes and crosses has been huge for Chelsea, and the way they have been playing, making two extra attackers for us in every attack, has really been priceless.
How we didn’t replace Chilwell in January I have no idea, but we absolutely should have, because these positions have been and are so important to Tuchel’s Chelsea and the success we have been getting this season before they got injured.
