July 29, 2021 – Major League Soccer (MLS) – Toronto FC News Release
Toronto FC announced today that the club will play the remainder of their 2021 home schedule at BMO Field, adhering to public health protocols and Major League Soccer regulations. The announcement was made as the Public Health Agency of Canada and the Minister of Immigration have approved a National Interest Exemption that outlines stringent health and safety protocols allowing for all MLS players to participate in cross-border matches.
“We are so thankful to everyone who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make this happen,” said Toronto FC President Bill Manning. “We promise to continue to do our part to ensure the safety and health of those who come to BMO Field.”
All traveling players and staff will continue to follow all Government of Canada requirements for travels crossing the border including using the ArriveCAN app and returning a negative COVID-19 molecular testing prior to departing for Canada, regardless of their vaccination status. Included in the National Interest Exemption, those individuals who are partially vaccinated, or are un-vaccinated, will be required to observe a strict modified work quarantine. Upon receipt of a negative COVID-19 test, these individuals may participate in work activities only, including trainings and games, and are otherwise prohibited from attending other functions or places through the remainder of a 14-day quarantine period, or until they leave the country.
TFC returned to Canada on July 8, after starting the season at Exploria Stadium in Orlando, where the team played four home matches. On July 17, Toronto FC played their first home match at BMO Field since September 1, 2020, a 1-1 draw with Orlando City SC.
Toronto FC will take on Nashville SC on Sunday, August 1, at BMO Field, with kick-off set at 7:30 PM.
