Let’s be honest, in the world of skateboarding, there is one name that rises above all others; a talent who is known well outside the confines of the skating world, Tony Hawk. It appears at the age of 53 that he has no plans to calm things down and has now reportedly broken his femur in an accident.
Hawk, who has 16 X Games medals, and in 1999 became the first known skater to pull off a complete 900, is honest enough to admit that recovery from such a serious injury will take longer but that it won’t affect his skating activities once he’s back on his feet.

The accident comes as a documentary of Tony Hawk’s life is about to be released. Until The Wheels Fall Off will air on HBO and is sure to be a massive success, such is the pull that Hawk has around the world.
Amazingly, just a matter of two weeks since his accident, Hawk is managing to walk without crutches and was on hand to promote the film, which airs this month and has become an ambassador for skateboarding worldwide and insists he’ll be back on his board in no time.

“When I was a kid — when I found skateboarding — I was not cool in skateboarding, and I had to learn to forge my own way,”
“Skateboarding gave me so many of my life skills,” he added. “Now, finally, everyone is sort of figuring it out… There are skate parks everywhere, and the cool kids in school are the skaters. It’s amazing. I’m so excited to be living in this time that I get to watch that develop.”
The fame Hawk has achieved from his skateboarding exploits is unprecedented. He even presented an Academy Award at the Oscars this year and joked about his many cameo appearances;
“If being in every Jackass movie, xXx, Police Academy 4, and Sharknado 5 doesn’t qualify me to present at the Oscars, then your taste in movies needs readjusting,” Hawk comically tweeted. Stick with skateboarding Birdman; acting doesn’t come quite so naturally to you!
