Naomi on what winning the SmackDown Women’s Title meant to her as a history maker

Naomi was a recent guest on The Wendy Williams Show which was being hosted by Michael Rapaport. The episode was originally scheduled to be hosted by Sherri Shepherd who had to have emergency surgery.

Early in the interview, Rapaport credits Naomi’s history-making moment when she became the first Black woman to become the SmackDown Women’s Champion. In 2017, Naomi defeated Alexa Bliss to become the first Black and third overall woman to hold the title. Due to injury, she had to vacate the gold about a week later only to win it back in two months at WrestleMania.

When asked what it meant to her to become the first-ever Black woman to win the SmackDown Women’s Title, Naomi had given a lot of credit to the women who came before her and hopes her win helps out those that come after her.

“It was very rewarding and fulfilling. Especially following in the footsteps of Jazz, Jacqueline, Alicia Fox, and all the Black women who came before me. I felt like I was really doing something meaningful and hoping that it would be easier for the women after me. All women – to accomplish these things.”

Naomi goes on to discuss what she does to stay fit, her Glow persona, being an Orlando Magic dancer prior to WWE, family get-togethers, and her time on Total Divas.
