Buddy Murphy Says WWE’s 90-Day Non-Compete Clauses Are Meant To ‘Kill All Hype’ For Released Superstars

Buddy Murphy was one of the mainstays of 205 Live, where he put on excellent matches on a weekly basis. Murphy would eventually move to the main roster where he floundered after a while.

Buddy Murphy was eventually released by the company last month, to the shock of many fans and wrestlers alike. As is usually the case, Murphy has to abide by the 90-day no-compete clause after his release.

While speaking to INSIGHT with Chris Van Vliet, Buddy Murphy talked about WWE’s 90-day non-compete clause. Murphy stated that the clauses are meant to kill all the hype and momentum for released WWE Superstars when they are set to go to another company.

“The 90 days is to kill all buzz and all hype. It’s so you don’t have any momentum when you go somewhere else. I’m not going to blow my load in the first week. I have to expand it over the 3 months. That’s why I drop the progress photo. Then I will drop something else. I feel like they hoard a lot of talent, and now they are saturating the talent. It is a business move I believe they are making. If you send out 3 guys, they can do what they want. If you send out 40 guys, the work gets cut. But wrestling can boom again. Now the pandemic is ending, more talent can go to the indies, and the fans can see it all.”

Former WWE Superstar and current AEW star Malakai Black also recently stated that something needs to change about WWE’s non-compete clauses as well. We will have to wait and see if non-compete clauses in WWE will eventually be changed.
