Margarita Maslennikova died at the age of 92


Margarita Maslennikova, the world champion of cross-country skiing who represented the Soviet Union, died on Friday in St. Petersburg at the age of 92.

Margarita Maslennikova skied the second leg in the women’s 3 x 5 km relay at the 1954 Nordic skiing World Championships in Falun. The other skiers on the Soviet winning team were Lyubov Kozyreva and Valentina Tsaryova.

At the same World Championships in Falun, Maslennikova was fourth in a 10-kilometer individual race. This was the first time the women were able to compete in the Nordic Ski World Championships.

Maslennikova won the Soviet championship in individual 10-kilometer race in 1954. He won the Soviet championship in relay skiing several times in the 1950s.
