You don’t need to have looked too hard on social media over the past few days to have come across the recent furore, comment and speculation surrounding Terje Håkonsen’s departure from Burton Snowboards. After riding for the brand for over 32 years, Burton informed the Norwegian that they would no longer be renewing his contract back in January this year.
Despite the decision being made almost ten months ago, it has been the last week where the story has picked up traction throughout the snowboard community, with various professionals, industry figures and the wider riding community weighing in with their thoughts and opinions on the decision.
“We have reached out to both Burton and Terje for comment on the situation and will bring you updates on the story as we receive them”
Of course we’re aware of what’s being claimed on social media, and we have also heard the calls for the media to weigh in with our own opinion.
However, the team here at Whitelines have made the decision not to fuel the speculation and debate without first hearing from both sides on the issue. We have reached out to Burton and Terje to comment on the situation and will bring you updates on the story as we receive them.
Regardless of the reasons behind the decision, Håkonsen’s departure from Burton marks a significant chapter in snowboard history. He is widely regarded as one of the most influential and pioneering riders of the sport and had ridden for Burton since 1989.
