Asides from those of us who hail from the Promised Land, Scotland may not be high on the list of people’s backcountry snowboard destinations. But on a season like no other, where resorts were closed, snowfall was good and splitboarding surged in popularity, Olympic medallist Billy Morgan and pal Scott Penman took to the roads to see what splitboard opportunities the Highlands had to offer.
The new documentary from Red Bull follows the boys as they embark on a three-day road trip, checking off some of the far north’s backcountry and touring hidden gems. Swapping out half cabs for a Hackney cab, Morgan decked out an old taxi and converted it for life on the road. With descents of the back corries of Aonach Mor and deep in the Cairngorms National Park, on Braeriach, Billy says how the terrain was “like actual alpine stuff… it’s legit, sick snowboarding!”
