The 11th round of the Hungarian League saw encounters between the teams ranked between 1st and 6th place. All three games were very exciting and each of the three ended with no winner.
Third-placed Vasas and the league leader Ferencvaros shared the points – 9:9. The game between 2nd-placed Szolnok and 5th-placed BVSC was ended in a 12:12 draw. Each of the home teams in these two matches saved a point in dying seconds.
The match Vasas – Ferencvaros wasn’t the only big game played in Budapest this evening. The other was an encounter between Honved (6th place in the table) and OSC Budapest (4th place). The rivals shared the points in this match, too – 8:8.
There were even four ties in the 11th round!

Ferencvaros controlled the Budapest derby played in the “Komjadi pool”. Vasas equalized at 1:1 in the 5th minute, but the visitors scored three goals in a row and had a 4:1 advantage in the 15th minute. Vasas netted two goals in the last 63 seconds of the second quarter, to reduce the gap to 3:4 before the middle break.
But, Ferencvaros rebuilt a 3-goal lead early in the third period. Denes Varga and Marton Vamos gave the visitors 6:3 lead. In the 25th minute, Ferencvaros went to 8:5.
Vasas continued its chase and cut the deficit midway through the fourth period (7:8). Denes Varga scored its 3rd goal in the match to double the advantage (9:7) with 74 seconds left on the clock. But, the drama wasn’t over yet. Immediately after, Vadovics responded for 8:9. Bence Batori equalized just 27 seconds before the final buzzer (9:9) and ended Ferencvaros’ winning streak after 10 wins in the 2021/22 Hungarian Championship.
Title-holder Szolnok hosted BVSC, which has played better and better from week to week. After the first quarter, the home side led 3:1. BVSC caught up with Szolnok in the third quarter (5:5 and 6:6), but the reigning champion entered the final quarter with a 7:6 lead.
BVSC’s Matyas Meszaros opened the fourth quarter with an early goal to equalize (7:7). Shortly after, Tamas Gyarfas (BVSC) and David Jansik (Szolnok) were together excluded for brutality. Each team gained a penalty shot and had to play with 5 field players in the following four minutes. Both penalties were converted (8:8). BVSC played better in the fourth quarter and earned an 11:9 advantage in the 29th minute. It seemed that the visitors would record a win as they maintained a 2-goal difference until the dying seconds. But, 39 seconds from the end, Adam Nagy scored his 4th goal for 10:11. The hosts gained an extra man in their last possession. Just two seconds before the buzzer, Akos Konarik converted that man-up to the final score 11:11.
There were a lot of twists and turns in the game Honved – OSC. Early in the second period, OSC led 3:1. Afterward, Honved produced a 5:1 run to earn a 6:4 advantage deep into the second quarter. Before the final quarter, Honved led 6:5. But, OSC retook control after the last break. OSC’s Marton Toth put the visitors in front (8:7) in the 29th minute. Norbert Hosnyanszky responded in the next possession for 8:8 which was, it turned out, was the final score.
The fourth game that ended with no winner today was an encounter between Miskolc and Kaposvar. In the 27th minute, Miskolc had a solid 12:8 advantage. But, Kaposvar scored the last four goals in the match (one action goal, two from penalty shots, and one with an extra player) and equalized at 12:12 with 45 seconds to go. Miskolc played with one player fewer in the last 80 seconds because of exclusion due to a brutality foul.
UVSE, led by Zsombor Ekler, who scored six goals, defeated Debrecen 12:8 and recorded its second win in the season.
Eger was better than Szeged (15:11). Szeged led 6:5 in the 17th minute. But, Eger produced a 5:0 run and went to 10:6 (23rd minute)which proved vital for their win.
