Szolnok records convincing win in Budapest; three draws in 24th round

Szolnok beat BVSC in Budapest convincingly (13:5) in the first of three derbies in the 24th round of the Hungarian League. The other two derby games (Ferencvaros – Vasas and Honved – OSC) will be played next week.

There were a lot of interesting games in the 24th round. The rivals shared the points in three games.

BVSC and Szolnok had ups and downs in the derby. Still, the reigning champion recorded a convincing victory. Szolnok opened the match with a 3:0 lead. BVSC leveled at 3:3. After that, Szolnok produced a 4:0 series for a 7:3 lead. BVSC halved the deficit (5:7) in the middle of the third period. However, Szolnok scored the last six goals in the game for a comfortable 13:5 victory.

An encounter between Kaposvar and Miskolc was a close contest. Kaposvar had a 9:6 lead in the third period, but Miskolc leveled at 10:10, 11:11, and 12:12. Just 21 seconds before the end, Barnabas Biros gave Miskolc a 13:12 lead, but Norbert Juhasz-Szelei found the net with seven seconds to go and Kaposvar saved the point.

PVSK dictated the pace for most of the time of the match with Szentes. The visitors had an early 4:1 lead, but Szentes came back into the match. In the 31st minute, the hosts earned a lead for the first time (9:8). But, shortly after, PVSK equalized and the rivals shared the points.

The match Szeged – Eger, played a few days ago, was very exciting, like the games in Kaposvar and Szentes. Eger wasted a 4-goal lead (8:4), and let Szeged go in front at the finish of the game (10:9). Eger earned an 11:10 advantage in the final minute, but Szeged’s Kardos scored an equalizer with 11 seconds left on the clock.

UVSE earned an away victory in Debrecen. The rivals were in a neck-and-neck race until the middle of the third quarter. In the third period, UVSE jumped to 9:6 and controlled the match in the remaining time.
