Catania, which has won seven points since the start of the season, was an underdog in the game against LEN Euro Cup semifinalist Telimar Palermo. But, it was difficult to predict an outcome. Neither of the teams played an official match between mid-December and this weekend.

Catania took an early 2:0 lead, but Telimar equalized (2:2) before the first break. The scores of the first three quarters mirror an equal battle between the rivals. Before the final quarter, the rivals were tied at 8:8. The first goal in the 4th period was scored 03:03 minutes before the end when Torrisi gave Catania a 9:8 lead. The hosts were keeping the minimal advantage for a while. Telimar’s Gilberti leveled at 9:9 with 58 seconds left on the clock. Catania didn’t score in its last possession. Telimar earned an extra man in its last attack. Just three seconds before the final buzzer Marziali converted that man-up to a 10:9 victory.

European champion Pro Recco showed no mercy to Salerno. Brescia conceded only three goals in a convincing 12:3 win over Posillipo in Naples.
