Four teams are still unbeaten in Hungary

There were no surprises in the 6th round of the Hungarian League, played this evening. The teams that are in the higher half of the table (places 1st – 7th) collected points today, but there were a few interesting games with twists and turns.

Only two teams recorded away wins – Szolnok and Szeged.

Szolnok, Ferencvaros, OSC and Vasas continued their unbeaten runs.

Reigning champion Szolnok easily defeated UVSE. Szolnok had a 10-goal lead after the third quarter (13:3). Young water polo players of UVSE did their best to reduce the gap and avoided a defeat with a double-digit margin (16:4).

Slobodan Nikic debuted as a head coach of Vasas with a 12:9 victory over Miskolc. Vasas led 3:2 in the first quarter, but the visitors opened the second quarter with two goals and went in front – 4:3. Shortly after Miskolc’s fourth goal, the hosts equalized. In the last three minutes of the first half, Bence Batori scored a hat-trick to give Vasas a 7:4 advantage. Miskolc cut the deficit (6:7). After that, Vasas produced a 3:0 series in the last 02:31 minutes of the third period and earned a comfortable 10:6 lead before the final quarter.

Ferencvaros needed a quarter and a half to secure a safe distance in the match against Szentes. In the 13th minute, “Fradi” had a 7:2 advantage and controlled the match until the end. Denes Varga missed the game (he didn’t play against Szeged on Saturday,). Ferencvaros’ best scorers were Vendel Vigvari and Nemanja Ubovic, with three goals each. Luca Damonte, who played for Italy in a friendly match against Croatia in Imperia yesterday, arrived in Budapest in time and contributed to the win with two goals.

OSC Budapest didn’t care much about the defense, but the offense worked well. OSC convincingly defeated Kaposvar with five goals from Gergely Burian.

After two consecutive defeats (to Ferencvaros and PVSK), Honved returned to the winning track. Honved hosted Eger. The home team took a 3:1 lead. Still, Eger scored four goals in a row in the first five minutes of the second period and turned around a 2-goal deficit to a 5:3 lead. Honved responded in the same way. The hosts produced a 4:0 run for a 7:5 lead in the middle of the third period. The visitors halved the deficit (6:7), but Honved dominated the last 10 minutes and took all three points with a 12:7 victory.

BVSC and PVSK faced off in BVSC’s pool. The hosts earned a 6:2 lead, but PVSK was able to come back and reduce the gap (5:6, 6:7, 7:8). BVSC’s defense was superb in the final eight minutes. The hosts scored five goals in the fourth quarter for a 13:7 win.
