Waspo98 Hannover has won the “double crown” in Germany.
Early in May, Hannover won the German Cup. Less than three weeks after, Waspo successfully defended the national championship title beating Spandau 04 (16:9) in the fourth match of the playoffs final.
Hannover clinched its fourth German Championships in the past five years, after the titles in 2018, 2020, and 2021. Besides, it won its second “double crown” in a row.

The first three matches of the final were quite exciting until the end. Waspo won the first two games (12:9 and 11:9). Spandau recorded a 14:13 victory in the third encounter.
The fourth clash between the best German clubs quickly turned into a one-sided contest. Early in the second period, Hannover earned a 4:0 lead. Spandau got on the scoreboard in the 10th minute and shortly after added another goal to half the deficit (2:4). However, Hannover responded with four goals and jumped to an 8:2 lead. From that point on, the difference was never smaller than five goals.
Spandau, which played without Marko Stamm (injured) and Dmitri Kholod (suspended because of a red card in the 3rd game), couldn’t catch up with the hosts. Hannover even had a 9-goal lead (16:7), but Spandau scored two late consolation goals.
Spandau, which finished the season empty-handed, has to find a new head coach. Petar Kovacevic leaves the club and moves to France, where he will coach Tourcoing.
